I've noticed that they're many times the same people. examples:
- an old "friend" of mine who liked the Cowboys, Islanders, Lakers when they were good, dumped them all when they were bad. favorite baseball team, surprise, the Yankees. said the Olympics didn't mean much, put down soccer all the time
- another someone close to me at times, a gym teacher and coach no less, who rips everyone else for being fake fans, yet his favorite golfers are Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, favorite baseball team the Yankees, dumped the Cowboys, Rangers, Knicks, Giants when they were bad. also thinks soccer is a non sport
- the American fans that put down soccer fans for their hooliganism, rioting etc. guess they see the bad in other nations and only the good in ours (right wing methodology?): see the riots after the Chicago Bull victories, Laker victories, Michigan State sports, to name just a few
for the record, i actually enjoy all the above mentioned sports, honest
The rioting after a sports team "win" pisses me off so much! I don't really care much about sports in that, I can watch them, even enjoy them and admire the talent of the players, but I don't really care who wins and I don't really follow any teams. I have teams I like more than most and teams I like less than most, but really, I couldn't care less about them all. I've noticed that all the hard core sports fans I know practically have heart attacks over games. I don't need that kind of stress. My own life is stressful enough without stressing out about other people who are millionaires playing a game. I can't imagine wanting to go out and riot over a game. So, so stupid. And I think soccer is an amazing sport and both my brothers and my nieces played. :)
ReplyDeleteyeah ur in S cal so rioting has happened too much there. we haven't really had that in NY in a while. more cops here, maybe that's why. i know what ur saying: sports are great but not a big priority. agree. what i think is even dumber: paying for going to games etc at such high prices! fuck that! though i do pay for some big boxing matches but i have no choice (in watching). but when there was the baseball strike in 94 (cancelled the World series) and everyone bitched about millionares wantiing more, they went right back to them and paid to see them. jerk offs.
