How Lies become the "Truth"

the expression that something is an "acquired taste". i wonder if that's what the Nazis had in mind when they said that a huge lie, repeated over and over, can become the truth? that lies can grow like cancer until the healthy truth eventually dies?

we should also keep in mind that Hitler supposedly said that he learned propaganda from the Western democracies, not from the Soviets even with Stalin. recent examples:
  • "war is peace" rhetoric by Bush and Obama (Obama receiving the Nobel peace prize after increasing troop levels in Afghanistan by tens of thousands, and Bush actually said that the purpose of the Iraq war is peace),
  • Bush's Brain (Rove ET AL attacking not the weaknesses of another candidate but their strengths: see Swiftboating),
  • CNN saying that the Democrats losing one seat gave them a minority in the Senate (they controlled 59 of 100 seats), also most of the American media playing up the Democrats "losing" everything while having a majority in congress the whole time

Manhattan Bluffs: Upper Manhattan's Spine

i've written about Manhattan island being like a human body (e.g. Central park the lungs, Empire st building the u know what). but one label i never hear is that Manhattan has a sort of spine to it. it actually forms some of the most prominent features of parks in some of the most famous parks in Manhattan.

if you run along Central park along Central park west, you'll see more rock formations sticking up, probably the most in the park, some of the few natural formations of the park. this includes its highest point, Summit rock. i think these formations are all made up of Manhattan schist bedrock that makes up the island.

this continues thru much of the park, then curves (like a spine) a bit west thru Morningside park where there is a big cliff of schist. on top of this schist is where the largest (or second largest) cathedral in the world is, St John the Divine. next it creates bluffs (like cliffs) and levels in several parks heading north: St Nicolas park, north of which is Hamilton heights where he lived last before he was killed by Burr. then Jackie Robinson park, where i exercise and where uphill becomes Sugar Hill where folks like Duke Ellington, Joe Louis, Paul Robeson, Thurgood Marshall lived, and where i live now. then Highbridge park, near where the famous Coogan's bluff is, formerly overlooking the legendary Polo grounds.

im not sure why these continuous rocks, cliffs, bluffs never collectively received a name because they really are prominent from midtown thru uptown and Harlem. and again they offer some interesting features of some very good parks in Manhattan, and were the sites of some famous and historical events. so again my offering for it's name is in the Upper Manhattan Spine.

The Military Industrial Juggernaut

you hear everyone saying support our troops, fighting for freedom etc. is that the case, or are out actions cases of war profiteering, empire building, resource exploitation, dominance of power, america hegemony?

how many nations are we in? answer: over 150!! and World war 2 and the Korean war never ended: we have around 57,000 troops in germany, 33,000 in Japan (each a top 5 world economy), 27,000 in S Korea.

why are we in Afghanistan when so many other nations aren't? others aren't because it's really not that big a terrorist threat to the world?

we went into Iraq because of Hussein? the atrocities going on in Sudan at the same time were worse than Iraq, but Sudan doesn't have enough oil?

what happened to bin Laden dead or alive?

and of course the rich send the poor (what's the average socio economy of the military?) to do the '"defense'" of America so that the rich can have more power, money, resources etc (Haliburton et al).

i know a lot of this has been said but it needs to be out there more

Changes: New York City

it used to be you held on like iron to your bag in fear of getting it snatched.
now you hold on like iron to your bag because if it's left unattended you look like a terrorist.

used to be that tourists would avoid Times square to avoid the hookers, pick pockets etc.
now NYers avoid Times square to avoid all the tourists.

if you look at Manhattan like it was a human body, for instance the Empire state building is in the middle so it's the you know what, Central park is the lungs etc, Wall street is on one end, and in the past it could be seen at the top end as the brains of the operation, figuring out how to make money, get ahead etc. but since fall 2008 at least it's reversed, where it's had shit for brains, where Wall street's head was up it's ass so it's back down in the bowels of the world in reputation.

Manhattan's getting old, too established, too pricey, too corporate, when Brooklyn is getting more sheik, new, artsy, happening

Do Them, Not What They Say

i've learned over the years not to listen to chicks when they talk about relationships, matters of intimacy, what they want in a man, all that bullshit. not because i hate them but because so much is bull crap.

i've had women say to my face that they hate me, that there's no way they're going to bed with me, that they don't like my type. and usually that same day they would fool around with me, go out with me, go to bed with me. then i've heard a lot of women say they like funny guys, short guys, Irish (all me), nice guys. then they've gone with the bores, the jerks, the money bags (most frequently), taller guys.

you stick to your methods guys. Mystery
et al. increasing the touching, tease them (kidding them about themselves etc), going to a more secluded location, always bringing pen and paper, rubbers, breath fresheners. stick to your stuff and go with their behavior, increase intimacy type deal. even if they say they like tall dark handsome stupid, and you're short fair smart--literally...

THere's No Business Like Show Business

so much crap is topsy turvy when it comes to show business ( i love saying "show business', not 'entertainment' as most say now. when i say 'show business' i feel like some prick old vaudeville star with a cigar, bigotry, a bad suit, hair grease and a membership with the Friars). anyway, examples:

  • it's actually the upper class big earners that live in trailers

  • the families that are most ambitious in the business push their kids into child labor

  • often the younger you are (esp chicks), the better your earning potential.

  • many women who off camera look like boys (which is hot--just kidding), go on camera and look like 'the most beautiful women in the world"

  • some of the best acting isn't even acting: one of the greatest moments in film is the end of City Lights, called by Brando and others as some of the best acting. Chaplin himself said he wasn't even acting, he was just living the moment with his co star.

  • L.A is considered a city of glitz, glamour, stars etc, yet most of what they churn out in film, tv, food, culture etc is actually targeted to middle america, like a factory to produce for their tastes or lack of. (NYC by contrast is more of international tastes and culture).

and we all look up to it all eh?

Pretentious Celebrity Names

even worse than poseur celebrity mono names like Cher or Sting, are the celebs that force upon us their 3 frigging names that we have to say. they already have more money, bimbos, fame etc than us, but they also have to have more NAMES than all of us and we're supposed to say all 3 or be friggin 'uncool'! .

and notice: most of the time, they're 3 goddamn FIRST names: Phillip Michael Thomas. Sarah Jessica Parker (u'd think it came from a crappy 80s trend, but---) Sean William Scott--or Seann william scott--or fuckit--big surprise everybody still just calls him Stifler. of course i usually exaggerate and go with john William scott john jacob jingleheimer schmidt. hell, his name is my name too
